Old man Tom's Email from Utila

We heard from our long lost instructor Tom Hoyte in Utila and thought we shoudl pass it on:

Hows the song go "I got my toes in the water , no worries in the world, a cold beer in my hand, life is good today, life is good today!". Well it is! Great diving today, saw 1, no 2...............3............................4.................................... NO 5, yep, 5 WHALE SHARKS today! That makes a total of 9 I've seen, life IS good today! Jealous yet, temps in the 90's, sunny and HOT, working on my tan and doing some diving, with kids ages 24 to maybe 35! Life is good today! Showed even the kids how to swim today. When you see the whale sharks, you have to drop slowly off the back of the boat and SWIM after them. Do you know what it takes to keep up with them let alone CATCH them? Showed the "kids" what the old man could actually do, they now have a little more respect, even the Marine DM couldn't keep up! Maybe it was just the desire, don't know, but I did earn Delta Divers a little respect, smoked the kids!
Really I'm not emailing to gloat, well maybe a little, actually a LOT! But I did actually see 5 whale sharks today, AWESOME!!!!! Ranging is size from about 14' to 40', really something to behold! Also got a great shot of a juvenile Spotted Drum. Been having a great time.

Mid-Winter Decompression Stop

We are planning another Friday night "get together" on Friday January 23rd 2009, at Garys Resturant in Verona Beach from 7-9 PM.

Last month 12 divers gathered at Coalyard Charlies for some munchies, drinks, and story telling! It was great to see divers out socially and gave everyone a chance to catch up on what was "new". People enjoyed themselves so much that we've decided to get together once a month just to keep in touch with diving and our buddies..

If you have any adventures to share, pictures to show, or just feel like seeing old friends and meeting new ones...Come join us.

Garys Resturant is located at 6367 Lakeshore Rd. South in Verona Beach. This is located near Verona Beach State Park off of Route 13. There is a dinner special Friday nights and the bar has munchie foods. Mention that you are "with the divers" and there is a discount on meals!

Hope to see you on the Decompression Stop!
